End of Story. Again.

Me: Beau, you know how last week’s post video was called, “Bad Boys”?

Beau: How could I forget? So rude! And by the way, it wasn’t ‘last weeks’ post! You missed last week. Remember?

Me: Oh right. Well… I was busy. It was Ivy’s 4th Birthday party day and there was so much to do!

Beau: Right. And, once again, you left me at home while you went galivanting off!

Me: Well… you almost came along.

Beau: Almost came along is nowhere close to actually coming along Louise.

Me: Yes. Well, C.C.’s concussion was giving him too many headaches and he didn’t feel up to travelling.

Beau: Right. Which means I had to stay home too?

Me: He needed you to take care of him…?

Beau: Hmmm…. is that a question or a statement of fact Louise? ‘Cause if you ask me, I’d say you’re trying to avoid accountability here.

Me: Whaaat? Look who’s talking about accountability?

Beau: I wouldn’t go there Louise. You might find yourself in an even bigger ditch.

Me: It’s a hole Beau. Not a ditch.

Beau: Whatever you call it, yours is getting deeper by the shovel.

Me: How so? I’d think the one you’ve dug is pretty deep!

Beau: And I repeat… Hole or ditch, I suggest you ditch the shovel in your mouth and dig somewhere else.

Me: Whaaaat? How about we dig into what you don’t want to talk about? Huh?

Beau: But I do want to talk about you abandoning me. Again. And all the trauma and stress associated with that. Are you prepared for such a conversation?

Me: Ummm…. That’s not what I meant we needed to talk about!

Beau: I didn’t think so. So come again. What did you want to chat about?

Me: (sighing) Nothing?

Beau: Good girl. Now. Tell me. What did you bring me back from the birthday party extravaganza. Or did you forget all about me. Again.

Sigh. How does he do it? I wanted to talk about his ‘bad boy’ ways and an incident that happened while I was away, and once again, he brings the conversation back to my perceived transgressions.

Beau: Your transgressions are not ‘perceived’ Louise. They’re real. You left and left me behind. What happens when you’re away stays between C.C. and me. End of story.

Me: But I want to talk about it.

Beau: And I want to talk about your missing posting my blog last Sunday, but am I hounding you for an explanation? Nope. I’m letting you off the hook. Again. You should be thanking me. End of story. Again.

And he grins his endearing grin, closes his eyes and goes back to sleep.
