Beaumont: Louise. What are you doing?
Me: I’m making menus.
Beau: What for?
Me: For when I’m cooking in at Mt. Engadine Lodge again.
Beau: Again? Like…. you’re going back and leaving me? Again?
Me: You’ll be fine Beau. You’re dad will be home with you.
Beau: That’s not the issue Louise. I’m sure I’ll barely miss you.
Me: Ouch!
Beau: Ouch whatever. No. The issue is, you’ve been away this summer more than you’ve been home. Maybe it would be a better idea to forgo the cooking at Mt. Engadine again and get some rest. You look… very tired, weary and old.
Me: Ouch again!
Beau: Just tellin’ it like it is Louise.
Me: Well… could you be a little gentler?
Beau: Could you not go back to Engadine to cook?
Me: They’re in a bind Beau. Their chef has a family reunion and the guy who was going to cover cancelled at the last moment.
Beau: And so you have to go to the rescue just like you did last week?
Me: Not the rescue Beau. Just being a good person.
Beau: Hmmm…. well…. wouldn’t a good person stay home, take care of themselves and take care of their most beloved four pawed friend? That’s me btw.
Me: I know it’s you Beau.
Beau: Coulda fooled me given how much you’ve been off galivanting recently.
Me: I promise Beau. I’ll stay home after this.
Beau: Don’t make promises you can’t keep Louise.
Me: But I mean it. Honest.
Beau: Like forever and ever?
Me: Haha. Okay. Maybe not that long.
Beau: See! A promise you can’t keep.
Me: I can. Just not forever.
Beau: That’s not what you promised.
Me: Fine. I’ll stay home for at least two weeks.
Beau: Two weeks!?!? Why even promise!?!
Me: Because I want to keep my promise.
Beau: You mean the one you’ve already broken?
Me: (sighing) I can’t win with you can I?
Beau: Actually Louise. You can. But you have to stay home occasionally to find out how.
And so it goes. Beau always, always has the last word.
But… the fact is… I just got back from 3 days in a backcountry lodge and am off again on Wednesday until the following Monday.
Which also means… there will be no post next Sunday.
Beau: WHAT!!!!!? Dawggone it Louise. You really are walking a thin line. I might just have to pack my bags and go visit my buddy Rod. I’m pretty sure he would be so irresponsible as you!
Me: it’s not irresponsible Beau. It’s called living my life.
Beau: Aren’t I living ‘in’ your life?
Me: Of course you are Beau. It’s just sometimes… my life takes me away from you.
Beau: Then we’ll just have to see where my life takes me now won’t we.
Oh dear. I shudder to think what he’ll get up to next.
Beau: Shudder away Louise! I’m up to hijinks and you won’t be around to stop me! Woo Hoo!
Stay tuned…
In the meantime, here’s a video from our walk along the river this morning.
Beaumont, I was waiting to see the shake and wiggle when came back on shore. Isn’t that the best part, to stand as close as possible to a hooman and do the shake and wiggle?
Relax Bud. In the middle of winter you just may be wishing Louise would go away for a few days to give you a break. Just sayin’!

LOL — I had to protect my phone when he did his shake and wiggle — he does like to do it right beside me! π

Beua is good swimmer Louise… but like a fish out of water, he is very demanding… I’m on your side this time Louise …
the Lodge is in need of some help, and if you are in position to go, then go … otherwise I am sure would feel guilty and regret not going … and I am also sure Beau will eagerly await your return …

LOL — that he is — demanding Ivor!
And thank you– while Beau is not as sure about ‘the why’ I’m grateful you understand — and it is a stunningly beautiful place to be! π And I do like the cooking — though I’m rather tired still from last week! In fact, I missed my gathering with Ali yesterday because I put it on a wrong day in my calendar and then forgot to change it!
