This is definitely not the Bow River!

Me: Beaumont. Wake up!

Beau: Why?

Me: Time for walkies.

Beau: Have you seen the weather? Rain’s a fallin’. Wind’s a blowin’. And I’m cozy.

Me: Still doesn’t change the fact – it’s time for a walk.

Beau: Later.

Me: Now.

Beau: Why don’t you finish my blog first so you can at least get it posted on Sunday, not later. (Smiles oh so sweetly and innocently)

Me: Very funny Beau. I acknowledge I’ve been late with your blog the past while but I’m back on track now so… you need to get up so we can go for a walk.

Beau: How about you finish my blog, go for a walk and come back and tell me all about it?

Me: Not happening. The point of the walk is to get you some exercise.

Beau: Hmmm…. The point of sleeping is to get me some rest. It’s been a long and gruelling journey to the island Louise. I’ve had to be your constant companion, your emotional support dawg, not to mention, your cheerleader when your spirits were flagging and your conscience when your good sense was lagging! And believe me. Being your conscience is hard work! You keep shirking your responsibilities and failing on your commitments. It’s taken my all to keep you on track. I’m tired and I need rest.

Me: You also need a walk.

Beau: If I get up and go for a walk with you will you make me walk on that leashy thingy or will I be able to run free and chase the ball.

Me: Umm… Well… We’re walking to the viewpoint so we can check out the surf and listen to the waves.

Beau: Will you let me chase the waves and seagulls?

Me: The waves are too fierce and unpredictable right now Beau. So, No.

Beau: Then I pass.

Me: That wasn’t on the list of options Beau.

Beau: It is now.

Me: You’re really not going to get up are you?

Beau: (rolling over and feigning going back to sleep) Have a nice walk. Wake me up when you get back. I’ll be ready for a romp in the park chasing the ball by the time you get back.

And so, I walked to the viewpoint and watched the waves and felt the exhilaration of the sea in stormy weather while Beau slept on.

Beau: Actually Louise, I wasn’t only sleeping. I was dreaming of chasing seagulls and coming home to devour a well-deserved T-bone steak. Where is it?

Sigh. Again with the T-Bone steak. I blame his fans for his continuous insistence he get a T-bone.

Beau: I blame you, Louise, for not giving me what I deserve.

And so, he wins again with the last word.

Beau: In lieu of a T-Bone the last word will have to suffice.

PS — the rain had stopped and the wind was still wild. It was a fabulous walk. – and full disclosure… I made Beau accompany me! 🙂

  1. how sweet is this? What a lovely conversation (for once)! Beau needs to learn that the price of T-bones is simply not possible for DOG food…. Louise, you NEED to be more stern with him 😉
So, are you living on Vancouver Island now? In any case, it sounds idyllic and wonderful. Or did I get that wrong?
Awaiting your in-depth mail as promised, although I give you some more weeks to do that. But DO send me already your new address, so that I can prepare a card for you….
Sorry for being mostly absent. Life has a way of meddling with my writing/reading wishes. But I‘m here and listening… A very big hug for you and a cuddle of your prince the Great Beau!

    1. Haha! You try being stern with him Kiki! He gives you those eyes and that’s it. The response is… of course you have/do/go/be whatever you want! 🙂

But when it comes to TBone — I draw the line! I shall write today my beautiful friend!

  2. Sometimes when the weather sucks we don’t want to go for a walk no matter how good for us it is, I would rather stay home in the warmth and dream of the beach.

Also do know how much T bone steak costs, I don’t but maybe you do although I am sure dogs like to eat it they don’t usually go and buy it but I may be wrong.
